Not that the film needs one, but “Challengers” actor Josh O’Connor has an alternate title idea in case the need arises: “This could be called ‘Co-dependency: The movie.’” “That was our other title!” Zendaya quips. “Challengers” – its official title – is a tennis drama from director Luca Guadagnino that serves up a thrilling love triangle and seductive performances by Zendaya, O’Connor and Mike Faist. Whether you’re shedding pounds with the help of effective new medicines, slimming down after weight loss surgery or cutting calories and adding exercise, there will come a day when the numbers on the scale stop going down, and you hit the dreaded weight loss plateau. For five decades, the southern United States has been an attractive location for foreign automakers to open plants thanks to generous tax breaks and cheaper, non-union labor. Now, the United Auto Workers has dealt a serious blow to that model: winning a landslide union victory after decades of failing to unionize automakers in the South. The UAW easily won a historic victory Friday at Volkswagen’s plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with 73% of workers voting in favor of the union. It’s the UAW’s first win in trying to represent workers at a foreign car manufacturing plant in the South. While a single win…

Shoppers probably don’t think much about what happens next when they place an online grocery order. But it sets-off an intricate dance of software, artificial intelligence, robots, vans and workers. At an Ocado warehouse just outside Luton, I’m in the middle of such a dance. As far as I can see, hundreds of robots whizz around a grid, fetching items for online orders. They move with dizzying speed and precision. In the early days of online shopping, when you placed an order, humans would dash around a warehouse or a store collecting your items. But for years now, Ocado has…

Uefa is set to confirm nations will have 26-man squads for this summer’s European Championship in Germany. A meeting of the European governing body’s national competitions committee voted in favour of the change, which is set to be ratified by the executive committee later this week. Uefa had planned to revert back to 23-man squads after allowing the three-man expansion for Euro 2020 due to the ongoing impact of Covid-19. Expanded squads were also permitted at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar because it was played in the middle of the domestic season. Several international coaches were critical of 23-man…

Barcelona president Joan Laporta says he will not rule out taking legal action over Lamine Yamal’s ‘phantom goal’ against Real Madrid. Teenager Yamal thought he had put Barcelona 3-2 ahead at the Bernabeu but Real keeper Andriy Lunin, who was behind the goalline, clawed the ball away. The visitors were adamant the ball had crossed the line but the referee ruled it had not and with no goalline technology in La Liga, the video assistant referee (VAR) could not prove it. Barca went on to lose the match 3-2 after Jude Bellingham scored the winner in the first minute of added time.…

The family of an Indian nurse who is on death row in Yemen has travelled to the war-torn country to seek a pardon from the victim’s relatives. Nimisha Priya from India’s Kerala state was convicted for the 2017 murder of a local man, Talal Abdo Mahdi. In November, Yemen’s Supreme Judicial Council rejected her appeal, clearing the decks for her execution. But as Yemen follows Sharia law, she can secure a pardon by paying diyah or “blood money” to the victim’s family. On Tuesday, her mother Prema Kumari, husband Tomy Thomas and 11-year-old daughter Mishal arrived in Yemen’s capital Sanaa, accompanied…

The court ruled parts of the law that criminalised same-sex activity went against the country’s constitution. A gay man living in Dominica who brought the case said the law violated his constitutional rights. LGBTQ activists welcomed the decision, hailing it as “a significant milestone in the ongoing struggle for LGBTQ rights in the Caribbean”. The court ruled that sections 14 and 16 of the Sexual Offences Act, which criminalised consensual same-sex activity between adults, were unconstitutional. Writing in the ruling, Justice Kimberly Cenac-Phulgence said the…
