Five million disposable vapes are thrown away each week in the UK, a fourfold increase over the past year, according to research from recycling campaign group Material Focus. Only 17% of vapers recycle their vapes in the correct recycling bins, the research found. Vapes can cause fires in bin lorries and waste treatment facilities if not disposed of correctly. The vaping industry says it is working to improve recycling rates. Another former FTX executive has pleaded guilty in the US in a case stemming from the dramatic collapse and bankruptcy of the once popular cryptocurrency exchange. Ryan Salame, one of the firm’s top executives, admitted he had violated campaign finance laws and operated an illegal money-transmitting business. He agreed to surrender more than $1.5bn (£1.2bn) to authorities. The pleading comes ahead of the October trial of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried. American teenager Coco Gauff reached her first US Open singles final by beating Karolina Muchova in a semi-final disrupted by climate protesters. Gauff, 19, wrapped up a 6-4 7-5 win over Muchova and will face second seed Aryna Sabalenka in Saturday’s final. An overnight search of Richmond Park in south-west London was in connection with Daniel Khalife, the terror suspect not seen for near 48 hours since escaping prison, police have confirmed. The 21-year-old is accused of trying to spy for an enemy state, understood to be Iran, and plotting a fake bomb hoax. Two police helicopters were seen over the park – one of the biggest in the capital – during the night. It is located 2.8 miles (4.6km) from Wandsworth prison. Rishi Sunak is flying to Delhi to meet world leaders – becoming the first prime minister of Indian heritage to visit the country. Downing Street say the “historic” visit will be “a powerful reminder of the living bridge between the two countries”. Mr Sunak is accompanied by his wife Akshata Murty, who was born and grew up in India and is the daughter of one of India’s richest men. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has held a ceremony to reveal a new submarine, which Pyongyang claims can carry nuclear weapons. A report in state media said the submarine strengthened the country’s nuclear deterrent by “leaps and bounds”. Rescuers are rushing to save an American man trapped in the third-deepest cave in Turkey after he became ill, the Turkish Caving Federation said. Actor Danny Masterson was sentenced on Thursday to 30 years to life in prison after he was convicted on two counts of rape earlier this year in a Los Angeles courtroom, according to Deputy D.A.
