Slowing food prices helped drive a surprise fall in inflation in August, with the cost of living now at its lowest level in a year and a half. Inflation, which measures how prices change over time, fell to 6.7% in the year to August, down from 6.8% in July, official figures show. It is the third month in a row that the figure has dropped. Price rises for milk, cheese and eggs slowed the most, while fish and vegetable prices also eased. There was also a drop in hotel and air fare costs, although fuel prices jumped. When the rate…
Six Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip. Four were killed in a late-night military raid of Jenin refugee camp in which some 30 people were also injured, according to Palestinian medics. Another young Palestinian man was killed during an Israeli raid in Jericho on Wednesday morning. The sixth was killed during violent demonstrations on Tuesday evening near the Gaza-Israel separation fence. There was intense fighting on Tuesday night in the Jenin camp, a stronghold of Palestinian militants, where the Israeli military launched its biggest operation in years in the West Bank back…
Twenty-four hours after Azerbaijan’s army launched an offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh, ethnic-Armenian forces have agreed Russian terms for a ceasefire. One of the key demands that Karabakh forces have accepted is a proposal for complete disarmament. Some 120,000 ethnic Armenians live in the South Caucasus enclave, recognised internationally as part of Azerbaijan. Three years ago, Azerbaijan recaptured areas in and around Karabakh and on Tuesday demanded a full surrender. Karabakh officials say at least 27 people have been killed and another 200 wounded since the Azerbaijani military launched what it called “anti-terror” operations. Azerbaijan’s presidency said officials would meet Karabakh’s Armenian…

Francos said the Spanish football federation (RFEF) had committed to “immediate and profound changes”. The players began the boycott after then RFEF president Luis Rubiales kissed forward Jenni Hermoso following Spain’s triumph over England in the Women’s World Cup final last…

Canada And India Are Enmeshed In An Unprecedented Diplomatic Row. Here’s How It Happened
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has urged India to investigate seriously his claim that he has credible information linking New Delhi to the assassination of a Sikh separatist activist on Canadian soil, doubling down on an allegation that has triggered a diplomatic row and is threatening a deterioration in relations between the two countries. Trudeau said Tuesday Canada wasn’t trying to “provoke” India or “escalate” the situation, but was “simply laying out the facts.” He said his government will “follow the evidence and make sure that the work is done to hold people to account.” Canada’s allegation the Indian government was potentially involved in…
The new iPhone 15 Pro lineup offers the typical slate of new features designed to persuade customers to upgrade: They’re slimmer and thinner than last year’s crop. The new cameras are professional-grade and the switch to USB-C charging will make your life easier. But one new feature easily stands out: The Action Button. Apple has repurposed its physical mute button on the side of its high-end models into a more customizable tool, allowing users to carry out a handful of commands, from recording a voice memo and taking a picture to turning on the flashlight. The button can also be…
Millions of Fortnite users can now claim their small part of the $245 million that the game’s parent company agreed to pay as part of a settlement with the US Federal Trade Commission. Epic Games in December settled allegations with the FTC that it used deceptive tactics that drove users to make unwanted purchases in the multiplayer shooter game that became wildly popular with younger generations a few years ago. The FTC said Tuesday it has now opened the claims process for the more than 37 million potentially affected users who could qualify for compensation. Epic Games agreed in December to pay a…

Her priority remains with her daughter,” Peter Lauzon, Phillips’ attorney, told CNN in a statement on Tuesday, adding, “this period has been unimaginably hard on the…
