Donald Trump has challenged Joe Biden to TV debates, as the rivals hurtle towards a White House rematch following their sweep of the Super Tuesday votes. The Republican said he would take part in a TV forum with the Democratic president “anytime, anywhere, anyplace” posting online in all capital letters. Mr Biden’s campaign said Mr Trump was “thirsty for attention and struggling to expand his appeal”. No debates have so far been agreed ahead of November’s election. Mr Trump’s challenge came hours after his last Republican rival, Nikki Haley, dropped out of the race to be the Republican nominee for…

Russia has said it does not recognise arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for two top Russian commanders over alleged war crimes in Ukraine. The court named Sergei Kobylash and Viktor Sokolov on Monday. “We are not parties to the [Rome] statute – we do not recognise this,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. This is the second time warrants have been issued for Russians over the war in Ukraine. The first was for President Vladimir Putin and his children’s rights envoy. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Mr Peskov said: “This is not the first decision. We also know…

The German ambassador to the UK has said there is “no need to apologise” for security breaches which led to a call between top army officials being leaked by Russian sources. Miguel Berger told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme one of the participants had likely dialled in via an insecure line. This made it possible for Russia to intercept the call, he said. In the audio, officials can be heard discussing details of alleged British operations on the ground in Ukraine. Mr Berger hit back at criticism by former UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace, who said Germany was “pretty penetrated…

England have recalled fast bowler Mark Wood in place of Ollie Robinson in the only change to their XI for the final Test against India in Dharamsala. Wood was rested for the defeat in the fourth Test, while Robinson struggled with a back problem in Ranchi. England are 3-1 down and will lose the series regardless of the result of the fifth Test, which starts on Thursday. Poorly pair Robinson and Shoaib Bashir did not train on Wednesday, but Ben Stokes said it was “not a major issue”. Captain Stokes added: “I don’t think it’s anything to be too concerned…

59 games. 395 days. That’s when Manchester City midfielder Rodri last tasted defeat in blue. City’s 3-1 win over Manchester United at Etihad Stadium on Sunday means the 27-year-old is now on the longest unbeaten run in all competitions of any Premier League player past or present. “It is difficult to understand what we have done in recent years without him. It would’ve been difficult,” City boss Pep Guardiola told the club’s website last month. The run surpasses that of former Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho (58 games), with Rodri’s last loss in a City shirt coming against Tottenham in February 2023…

Life in the United States is pretty expensive these days. Between seemingly eternal inflation, high interest rates, and the exorbitant cost of healthcare, many Americans are looking for ways to keep more hard-earned dollars in their bank account. One option gaining traction? Relocation packages offered by some US smaller cities and towns to attract new residents. Also known as worker relocation incentive programs, these cash carrots are available across the country but share the same general premise: lure workers who have geographic flexibility with financial incentives and other perks, such as free gym memberships, co-working facilities, and even dinner with…

“The Zone of Interest,” Jonathan Glazer’s Oscar-nominated historical drama, is technically a film about the Holocaust. The film centers on the real-life Auschwitz commandant Rudolf Höss and his family, who live bucolic and seemingly mundane lives next door to the infamous concentration camp. But viewers never see the unspeakable horrors taking place just on the other side of the garden wall. Instead, they hear them. They hear them in the muffled screams, the heart-wrenching wails and the piercing gunshots. They hear them in the distant sounds of trains and in the constant hum of the incinerator. “I knew right from…

The number of independent record shops in the UK is at a 10-year high, according to an industry group. The digital entertainment and retail association (ERA) said there are now 461 indie record shops in the UK – 122 more than 10 years ago. By contrast, the number of shops physically selling music – such as supermarkets and specialist chains – fell by 8,000 compared to 2014. It means just 8% of all music sales are now in a physical form. The ERA’s 2024 Yearbook, containing statistics on the music, video and gaming sectors, found the UK music market was…

President Joe Biden was handed his first defeat so far in the Democratic presidential primary by a man who very few knew before Tuesday night: venture capitalist Jason Palmer. The little-known candidate from Baltimore won the American Samoa Democratic nominating contest. While Palmer won in the tiny US territory – where fewer than 100 people participate in the caucus – it will not slow Biden’s commanding march to the Democratic nomination after the president dominated Super Tuesday races across the country. “Honored to announce my victory in the American Samoa presidential primary. Thank you to the incredible community for your support. This win…

UK finance minister Jeremy Hunt is poised to announce a tax cut for workers Wednesday when he unveils what is likely to be the government’s last budget before a general election later this year. A cut to national insurance — a levy paid by people who work — costing around £10 billion ($12.7 billion) is likely, according to multiple UK media reports. But soaring government debt, crumbling public services and a lackluster economy leave the chancellor with very little room for further substantial giveaways. The UK economy barely grew in 2023, slipping into recession at the end of the year in stark contrast with Prime…
